"THE CRYER SCAMMERS" are Back & Actively scamming people out of their money in various parts of South Africa.
If you have a domestic worker, you are a target. Several community members received phone calls from "husbands" of their "suddenly deceased" domestic workers crying, informing them their wife suddenly died of "a pain".
They then hand the phone to the kids, or sometimes they phone on behalf of the husband and hand over the phone to the husband who also puts up an act of crying.
They request money to be paid to a cell phone number to assist the family. The "husband" will confirm your address and some of your personal details to make it sound legitimate.
DO NOT PAY THEM MONEY!
They obtained the information from your domestic worker by phoning your landline during the day when you are at work and pretend to be from the Department of Labour (they can use any government institution details and name).
They source the address and other personal information of both you and the domestic worker.
INSTRUCT your domestic worker (and kids) to NOT give out any information (even if the caller says he or she is from the Police) about you or themselves.
Let them take down the name and tel number of the caller, and pass it on to you to phone.
