What to know about flying Drones in your Neighbourhood
There have been a few complaints about drones flying over properties in the Helderberg.
If your drone is equipped with a camera you will be able to get some awesome aerial videos. However, it’s awfully easy to spy on people from way up in the sky. You don’t want to be known as the creepy guy down the street that uses his drone to spy on his neighbours.
Honor and respect your neighbours property and privacy. Don’t fly your drone over their yard, near their house or over their swimming pool. If you’re planning a certain flight path for a video you’re shooting, let them know what your plans are and ask them for their permission. They (and you)? will be grateful you did.
Apart from NOT being allowed to fly drones at night, respect other people’s privacy by not flying into or over their properties without permission - note that it may constitute trespassing.
There have been a few cases already in the Helderberg, where residents have spotted drones flying over their property, and were burgled shortly afterwards. Criminals have been known to use drones to study properties with high definition cameras which can explore properties from the air and used to identify security weak spots.
If your neighbour has not asked you for permission and you spot a drone flying over your property, we suggest that you report it to your Neighbourhood Watch.
